Meet Karen Saunders

Karen was born and raised in Greensboro, N.C. where she met her husband, Matt, of 29 years. She worked as a Surgical Assistant until the first of their two children were born. She became a stay-at-home mom for several years until being fortunate enough to work from home. This allowed her to attend her daughters’ school functions and sporting events at South Brunswick Middle and High School.

A love for the ocean inspired her family's move to the Southport/Oak Island area 20 years ago, where Karen, her parents, and siblings had always enjoyed a vacation home since she was a little girl. Matt and Karen enjoy boating, traveling, and spending time with their daughters and precious granddaughter, Reagan.

Matt is a Captain with New Hanover County Fire and Rescue with 29 years in the fire service. He also works part-time running the Southport office with Sea Tow offering on-the-water assistance. Their oldest daughter, Jordan, is a Master Deputy and Field Training Officer with New Hanover County Sheriff's Office. Their youngest, Sydnee, works as a Foster Care Licenser/Recruiter at Baptist Children's Home, while pursuing her Master's degree in Christian marriage, Family and Individual Counseling from Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary. Karen and her family thrive in community service and have an appreciation for helping others in various ways.
